A five-part series

The carpenter, the gardener & the botanist

Orthopaedics has long been about carpentry: repairing what is torn, stabilizing what is broken, and replacing what is worn out. Modern care also asks us to think like gardeners — preparing the body, supporting biology, and helping living tissue respond.

The botanist adds one more responsibility: studying what actually works. Clinical trials, teaching, research, and long-term outcome tracking help us give patients clearer, evidence-aware expectations without promising more than the science supports.

These episodes are general education, not medical advice. Treatment decisions require an accurate diagnosis, examination, and an individual discussion of benefits, limits, and alternatives.

Education is a starting point. An exam with Dr. Woolf is how we find the right plan for you — starting with conservative care.
